A police inspector working for the Agbado Police Station, Lagos State, Adelakun Amubeiya, has been arrested for allegedly raping a university student, Joy (not her real name), at the Ipaja area of Lagos State.  .

Punch Metro has gathered information on how the suspect and the girl live in the same lobby at Abesan Estate.

The policeman and his wife have promised to help the girl earn money by phone.  On November 15, the 18-year-old broke into the house, where she found Amubieya alone.

The policeman dragged her violently to his bed, where he raped her.

Joy assures Punch Metro that she did her best to let him go, but he rolled his eyes and sighed, until he achieved his goal.

After the girl's father found out about the rape, he found the alleged rapist, spoke to him but denied it.

"I took her to the hospital where she underwent tests. I lodged a complaint at the Ipaja police station. When the police went to his house, they did not find him. Then they went to his office but he did not.  I did not see him, and I took their case to human rights activists.

"After the police waited for him at their office in Ipaja but he refused, the case was returned to Ikeja."

"He did not appear until Monday when he was approached by people who were pushing him. When I asked him why I had raped my daughter, he said it was the devil's evil. I want my daughter to be treated fairly, because now she is in critical condition."  according to him.

Esther Ogwu, chair of the National Commission for the Protection of Children, advised parents to take care of their children.  "I want to advise parents to sit down with their children and make them aware of the problem of entering people's homes because there is a problem with that."
